Tetris
Tetris main playing area consists of a field of pieces called "tetrominoes" that fall from the field's top in various geometric shapes. The pieces can be rotated and moved laterally during this drop until they either touch the bottom of the field or land on a piece that was put there before them. In most variants, the player can accelerate the falling pieces rather than stop or slow them down. The aim of the game is to build as many full horizontal lines of blocks out of the available pieces. Each line that is finished causes the blocks above it to drop one rank and disappear. Points are awarded for completing lines, and when a player earns points or clears lines, they advance in level, which raises the quantity of points awarded for each completed line.
In the majority of variations, the rate at which the pieces fall quickens with each level, giving the player less time to consider the placement. Multiple lines can be cleared at once, which in some versions might result in bonus points. The I-shaped tetromino can be used to complete up to four lines at once; this action is known as a "Tetris" and is the inspiration for the game's name.
